Party sympathizers have identified Asiedu Nketiah and Julius Debrah as among the leading figures expected to play key roles in the race for the party's flagbearership.

Asiedu Nketiah, a long-serving party strategist who served as General Secretary before becoming National Chairman, is believed to enjoy considerable grassroots support across the country. His nationwide "Thank You Tour" following the NDC's electoral victory has further fueled speculation about his future political ambitions.

However, critics within the party have accused him of attempting to consolidate power. The controversy intensified after remarks attributed to him suggested he played a decisive role in engineering changes to the NDC's parliamentary leadership ahead of the 2024 elections—comments that sparked debate within the party.

Mubarak has consistently aligned himself with Julius Debrah, who is widely regarded as a close ally of President Mahama and a preferred candidate among sections of the party's intellectual and technocratic wing.
