The Member of Parliament for Assin South, John Ntim Fordjour, has called on former President John Dramani Mahama to be held accountable for his pledge to introduce legislation addressing LGBTQ-related issues.

He specifically referenced recommendations outlined on pages 107 and 108 of the Constitutional Review Committee’s report, warning that their adoption could pave the way for the recognition of LGBTQ principles within the country’s legal framework.
“These recommendations, if adopted, could open the door for the recognition of LGBTQ concepts within our constitutional framework,” he stated.
According to the Assin South legislator, such a move would have significant implications for Ghana’s identity, arguing that it could fundamentally reshape the nation’s moral and cultural foundations.
“This is not just a legal matter; it is an issue that goes to the heart of our values as a nation. Embedding such provisions in the Constitution will have far-reaching consequences for our moral and cultural identity,” he added.
The Minority is also demanding an apology from Mr. Mahama and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to Ghana’s religious and traditional leaders. According to Rev. Ntim Fordjour, assurances had previously been given that anti-LGBTQ legislation would be prioritised if the NDC assumed power.
However, he argued that the current posture of the party suggests a departure from that commitment.
“We were made to understand that this bill would be treated as a priority if they came into office. What we are seeing now is a clear shift, and it amounts to a betrayal of the trust reposed in them by religious and traditional leaders,” he said.
