Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has held talks with the British High Commissioner to Ghana at his residence in Accra, describing the meeting as a productive engagement focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
In a statement issued after the meeting, Dr. Bawumia said discussions centred on the enduring partnership between the two countries and explored opportunities for deeper collaboration to support Ghana’s next phase of development.
He highlighted the significance of the UK-Ghana Business Council in enhancing economic ties, noting that strategic cooperation through the platform has played a key role in unlocking investments that have contributed to critical infrastructure development across the country.
Drawing on his experience as former co-chair of the council during his tenure as Vice President, Dr. Bawumia stressed that sustained partnerships with international allies remain vital for promoting sustainable economic growth and attracting foreign direct investment.
The former Vice President also expressed gratitude to the British High Commissioner for acknowledging efforts to improve the quality of political discourse in Ghana by promoting policy-based engagement over personal attacks.
According to Dr. Bawumia, national progress is best achieved through constructive dialogue and the exchange of ideas, emphasizing that political debate should focus on policies that address the needs of citizens rather than partisan rhetoric.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen diplomatic and economic relations between Ghana and its international partners, while reinforcing collaboration on issues of mutual interest.
