The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally congratulated former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia following what it described as an emphatic victory in the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Dr. Bawumia was declared winner by the Electoral Commission of Ghana after securing 56.48 percent of the total valid votes cast, earning him the party’s flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections. His closest contender, former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong, placed second with 46,554 votes, representing 23.76 percent.
