The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of spending a staggering GHS38 million on the Akwatia by-election, which was held on September 2, 2025.

The by-election followed the sudden death of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ernest Yaw Kumi, who served as Member of Parliament for just seven months. The contest ended with the NDC’s candidate, Lawyer Bernard Bediako Baidoo, defeating the NPP’s Solomon Kwame Asumadu by a margin of about 3,000 votes.
