Voters in the Akwatia Constituency are heading to the polls today, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, to elect a new Member of Parliament (MP) following the passing of Ernest Yaw Kumi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

More than 50,000 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots in what has become a closely watched by-election, with both the ruling NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) treating the seat as strategically crucial.

The NPP is represented by Solomon Kwame Asumadu, who is seeking to retain the seat for the party, while the NDC has fielded Bernard Bediako Baidoo, hoping to flip the constituency in its favour. Campaigns leading up to the polls have been fierce, with both sides mounting vigorous grassroots and media drives to sway voter sentiment.
