Akwatia By-Election: Voters Decide Between NPP and NDC in High-Stakes Contest

To ensure a peaceful and credible process, the Ghana Police Service has deployed more than 5,000 officers across the constituency. Security personnel have been stationed at polling centres, collation centres, and designated flashpoints to prevent violence or intimidation.

Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has assured the public that the massive security presence is purely to safeguard peace. “The officers are here to protect the process, not to intimidate voters,” he emphasized.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has also confirmed that all electoral materials and logistics were dispatched ahead of time to guarantee a smooth exercise. Election observers are on the ground monitoring proceedings to promote transparency and credibility.

Political analysts say the Akwatia contest is more than just a by-election, viewing it as an early test of voter mood ahead of the 2028 general elections.
