Restore Automatic Postings Now! TTAG to Gov’t

According to the association, more than 45,000 trained teachers remain unemployed despite having completed their education, while an additional 65,000 students are currently enrolled across the country’s Colleges of Education.

Mr Devine warned that the situation poses a serious threat to the future of teacher trainees and undermines confidence in the education system.

“Those currently in the Colleges of Education are over 65,000. If the 45,000 already in the system do not know when they will be posted, then what about those still in training? What is the essence of their education?” he questioned.

He further argued that if the government lacks the capacity to absorb the backlog of trained teachers, it should reconsider the continued operation of the Colleges of Education.

“If indeed the government cannot recruit the 45,000 trained teachers in the system, then the Colleges of Education should consider closing down,” he stated.

TTAG is therefore urging authorities to not only expand recruitment significantly but also restore the automatic posting system, which previously ensured that newly trained teachers were promptly absorbed into the public education sector.

The association maintains that without decisive intervention, the growing number of unemployed trained teachers could have long-term implications for Ghana’s education sector and workforce planning.
