The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is expected to leave Ghana this week for a working visit to Poland and Canada, temporarily delegating key traditional and administrative responsibilities within Asanteman during his absence.

The Asantehene announced the trip during an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Council held at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, May 25.

According to details shared at the meeting, the revered monarch will first visit Poland before continuing to Canada as part of the official working tour.

In line with long-standing Asante traditional governance arrangements, the Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, has been tasked with overseeing the affairs of Asanteman while the Asantehene is away.

The temporary arrangement is part of the established traditional leadership structure within the Asante Kingdom, where senior chiefs assume delegated responsibilities during the absence of the Asantehene to ensure continuity in governance, customary administration and dispute resolution.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II also addressed individuals with pending matters before the Asanteman Council, assuring them that hearings and proceedings would continue immediately upon his return.

“Our proceedings will resume as soon as I return,” the Asantehene stated, urging parties involved in ongoing cases to remain calm and exercise patience.

Meanwhile, administrative oversight of Kumasi has reportedly been assigned to the Nkwantakesehene, Nana Boadakye Yaw Ababio, for the duration of the King’s absence.

The Asantehene’s visit is expected to strengthen engagements and relations between the Asante Kingdom and international partners in both Poland and Canada.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has, over the years, undertaken several international visits aimed at promoting cultural diplomacy, education, investment and development partnerships for Asanteman and Ghana at large.
