The Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association (KADA) has suspended its industrial action with effect from 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, following successful engagements with key stakeholders and the intervention of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the association announced that its members would return to work after constructive discussions aimed at resolving the concerns that led to the strike.
“The Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association (KADA) wishes to inform the general public that the industrial action embarked upon by its members has been suspended with effect from today, 9th June 2026, at 6:00 p.m. This decision has been made following fruitful engagements and the timely intervention of His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Hospital Board, Management and other key stakeholders who have demonstrated commitment towards addressing the concerns that led to the industrial action,” the statement said.
KADA explained that while it remains committed to securing a lasting resolution to the issues that triggered the strike, it took into consideration the impact of the prolonged industrial action on patient care and the wider public interest.
According to the association, the safety and well-being of patients played a significant role in its decision to suspend the strike and allow dialogue with stakeholders to continue.
The doctors expressed appreciation to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his intervention, as well as to the Board of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), hospital management and other stakeholders for facilitating discussions toward an amicable settlement of the impasse.
KADA also acknowledged the solidarity and support it received from the National Executive Council and members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), alongside several health sector unions and professional organisations. These included the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, the Health Services Workers’ Union, the Emergency Medicine Society of Ghana, the Orthopaedic Association of Ghana, the Komfo Anokye Certified Registered Anaesthetist Association, the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists and the Komfo Anokye Pharmacists Association.
The suspension of the industrial action effectively brings to an end days of disruption at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where healthcare delivery was significantly affected as consultations and other essential medical services were curtailed, leaving many patients stranded.
KADA indicated that negotiations with stakeholders will continue in the coming days as efforts intensify to address the outstanding issues that prompted the strike.
The industrial action was triggered by the suspension of the Chief Executive Officer of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo, following his announcement of the suspension of emergency services at the facility.
With the strike now on hold, patients are expected to gradually regain access to medical services as doctors resume their duties while discussions continue toward a permanent resolution.
