GHANA MOURNS: Legendary Gospel Musician Yaw Sarpong Passes On

Over the years, many young gospel artistes have cited Yaw Sarpong as a major influence, crediting his musical excellence, discipline and spiritual depth for inspiring their own careers.

His death comes barely a month after the passing of Maame Tiwaa, a key member of the Asomafo Gospel Band, dealing another heavy blow to the gospel music fraternity.

In recognition of his immense contribution to gospel music, Yaw Sarpong was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards. The award celebrated his decades-long dedication to gospel ministry through music and his lasting impact on generations of musicians and worshippers.
