Legendary Ghanaian gospel musician Yaw Sarpong has passed away. He reportedly died at the Emena Hospital in Kumasi, where he had been receiving medical treatment.
The news of his death was confirmed by close family sources and friends within the creative industry, including renowned sound engineer Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as Fredyma, who announced the passing in a Facebook post.
Yaw Sarpong was a towering figure in Ghanaian gospel music and a pioneer of the genre. As leader of the renowned Asomafo Gospel Band, he produced numerous timeless gospel classics that have shaped Christian music in Ghana for decades. His work earned him immense respect within the Christian community and the wider music industry.
