The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is preparing to roll out a new mobile tax platform designed to make tax payment easier and more convenient for informal sector workers, including barbers, food vendors, DJs, bloggers and other small-scale business operators.

Commissioner-General of the GRA, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, disclosed the initiative during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, explaining that the system, referred to as modified taxation, targets individuals earning below GH₵500,000 annually.

Under the new system, users will be able to pay a 3% tax on their income directly through a mobile application.

Mr. Sarpong said the move is aimed at removing long-standing barriers that make tax compliance difficult for many in the informal economy.

“Some want to pay but they can’t. So we are making it simple and convenient. You will use your Ghana Card to register, pay on the app and receive your receipt instantly,” he noted.
